The Sennheiser e 901 is a professional pre-polarized boundary condenser microphone designed especially for kick drum applications. Featuring a half-cardioid pick-up pattern, optimized low-frequency response, and extremely fast transient handling, the e 901 delivers a powerful, defined, and natural kick drum sound that sits perfectly in any mix.

Its ultra-thin, high-strength diaphragm provides excellent attack response and extended low-frequency reproduction, while the integrated preamp and rugged metal housing ensure reliable performance in demanding live and studio environments. The flat boundary design allows the microphone to be placed directly inside a kick drum without requiring a microphone stand.

ARCHITECT’S SPECIFICATION

The microphone shall be a pre-polarized condenser boundary microphone with a half-cardioid pick-up pattern designed specifically for kick drum applications. The microphone shall feature a flat, rugged housing with a slip-free damping rubber pad underneath and an integrated preamp.

The microphone shall have a frequency response of 20 Hz – 20,000 Hz and a sensitivity (free field, no load) of 0.5 mV/Pa at 1 kHz. Maximum sound pressure level shall be 154 dB. Nominal impedance shall be less than 100 Ω, with a minimum terminating impedance of 1 kΩ.

The microphone shall operate on 48 V phantom power and provide a gold-plated 3-pin XLR connector. The microphone shall feature a rugged metal housing designed for direct placement inside kick drums or on other boundary surfaces.

Dimensions shall be 126.5 × 105 × 26.5 mm (4.98″ × 4.13″ × 1.04″). Weight shall be approximately 550 grams (19.40 oz).
